DPT

The German Prevention Congress (DPT) was founded in 1995 as a national annual conference particularly focussing on the field of violence and crime prevention. The DPT’s main goal is to raise awareness and strengthen crime prevention across departments, disciplines and within a broader social framework. In addition to violence and crime prevention, which continue to be the main focus areas, the extended spectrum of the congress ranges from addiction prevention and traffic prevention to the various areas of prevention in the healthcare sector and overall society. The congress addresses all stakeholders responsible for prevention including authorities, municipalities, cities and districts, healthcare, child and youth welfare, justice, churches, media, politics, police, prevention committees, projects, schools, sport, associations and federations, business, science and all other interested parties. Part of the DPT is also the Institute for Applied Prevention Research (DPT-I), which promotes a dialog between prevention research, practice and policy. More specifically, the DPT-I discusses results of prevention research with representatives in the fields of science, politics, administration, associations and civil society to advocate the role and necessity of prevention within society. Also, the DPT-I cooperates with scientific institutions as well as conducting own research projects to further strengthen an implementation practical application in the field of prevention.
